Second Chance Jobs in Atlanta

A record does not have to stop you from working. Here is where to start looking in Atlanta, and a few things that can make applying easier.

Job boards that welcome people with records

  • Jails to Jobs: a job board for people with records. Search for Atlanta, GA at jailstojobs.org.
  • 70 Million Jobs: another job board built for people with records, at 70millionjobs.com.
  • WorkSource Metro Atlanta: a free job center that can connect you with employers and training. atlworks.org.
  • Georgia Department of Labor career centers: free job search help at dol.georgia.gov.

Clearing or restricting your record

Georgia law now lets many people restrict and seal older convictions and arrests, which can change what an employer sees on a background check. The Georgia Justice Project shares record clearing information and runs info sessions. Start at gjp.org. Every situation is different, so this is not legal advice.

Ask about hiring incentives

Some employers can receive a federal tax credit or free job bonding when they hire people with records. If an employer seems unsure, it is fine to mention the Work Opportunity Tax Credit and the Federal Bonding Program.

Tips for applying

  • Prepare a short, honest answer about your record. Keep it calm and focus on what you have done since and what you can do for the job.
  • Ask the recruiter how the company handles background checks before you spend time on a long application.
  • Fields that often hire people with records include warehouse and distribution, food service, construction and trades, and driving jobs. Apply to more than one place.
  • Get a strong resume first. Our free resume service takes 5 to 7 business days, so ask early.
